Washpit is Tidier!
On a bright Saturday morning early in November, a group of volunteers armed with bin bags and litter-picks descended on Washpit Lane, and slowly walked the length of it looking for litter. The results were quite surprising. At the end of an hour or so we had amassed four car wheels, two batteries, one traffic cone, bottles and cans too many to count, and a mass of other material, either carelessly dropped by passers-by or deliberately fly-tipped. We completely filled the back of the Sustainable Girton truck with what we had removed from the verges, and it was later removed by the District Council's environment department, who were delighted to help in this tidying-up of the lane. Meanwhile the volunteers enjoyed a welcome cup of tea and biscuits at the Archers'.
Washpit Lane makes a very attractive walk, and we hope that the Village will appreciate it all the more for its being tidy -- and keep it that way.
